I remember sitting in my elementary school playing Oregon Trail (and dying several times from Cholera or losing an Oxen while fording the stream) and thinking that it was the coolest thing ever to have a video game. My little brain back then would have exploded if you had tried to explain the news and advances in technology that we’ve made since the early to mid 80s. But my obviously more cognitive brain now would love to know how we lived back then without things like cell phones, the internet (as we know it), and nutella. Okay I made that last one up. I think they had nutella back then. I mean, it wasn’t the dark ages!
Regardless, what would the internet have looked like back in 1986? Imagine no longer. A group of Austrian web designers set out to figure out what the Internet’s largest search engine would have looked like in DOS form. If you don’t remember DOS, just take a gander HERE and you’ll remember pretty quickly. Reminds me of the Oregon Trail a little bit. If you can’t figure out how to use it, don’t worry, it just means you were born after the puffy paint sweatshirt craze had already subsided…and aren’t you lucky?

I hate Baseball. I do not say this as a person who thinks not liking sports makes him better than everyone else, that would be a pointless thing to try to relate on all the dummies who love sports. (more…)

The Internet has been abuzz with reactions to a hologram performance of Tupac this past weekend at the Coachella festival. Tupac has been dead for well over a decade but he made his triumphant(?) return to the stage in scary realistic hologram form.
Remember when holograms were just another crazy idea only seen in Star Trek? We may not have caught up to teleportation just yet, but cellphones we covered years ago and now there are these holograms. I thought this would be an epic achievement, but using it to recreate a dead man just seems strange, potentially wrong. Watching the video performance was awe inspiring, but I didn’t know how I felt about it. It’s one thing if it were a hologram of Snoop Dogg because maybe he couldn’t make it to the show. But deceased Tupac?
The image was created by Digital Domain Media Group Inc. who stated, “This is just the beginning. [Dr.] Dre has a massive vision for this.” Dr. Dre has refused to elaborate on what exactly that vision is but we’re all thinking the same thing, hologram tours. Would you go see an entire hologram Tupac concert? Maybe we can round up all the great dead people for a “reunion” tour, featuring B.I.G., Kurt Cobain, Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, and Elvis. And Houdini will perform at intermission.
If you haven’t watched the performance, check it out and let us know if you think it’s a cool idea or just another way to make money off the dead.

Last night was the television premiere of HBO’s Girls, the best shot that the Home Box Office Channel has had at capturing something like a cultural zeitgeist in years. Of course as a result of the shows hyper realism and its focused interest in female issues being faced by women in their mid 20′s there is a wide array of opinions that have been violently tossed back and forth for months. Last night was the premiere of America’s Best Dance Crew. It had an all-Britney music theme, picking several of her more current singles. This year there are plenty of newbies as well as plenty of familiar faces to provide entertainment. If you have followed the show from the beginning, then you may remember a little crew called Fanny Pak:
They did very well their first time around but now.. well, they’re back this season with a vengeance. They start the season off with their rendition of Britney Spears’ “Womanizer” and they were just as good as ever, if not better. They are definitely going to give the other competitors a run for their money (and the title) and having gotten to 3rd place way back in season 2, as an audience we all know they can make it.
So far they’re competing against a team of pre-teens and teens: 8 Flavahz, a comedy group: Stepboyz, and the two more serious challengers, Irratik and Mix’d Elements.
From the looks of it, this season is going to be really epic, full of humor, and good entertainment for everyone. I look forward to watching it this season with my roommate and picking my favorites as the season progresses.

I do not like baseball one bit. While I can enjoy the pop cultural presence of a number of athletes from Jeremy Lyn to weirdo tennis twins Bob and Mike Bryan, there has not been a baseball player to be similarly captivating in my lifetime. (more…)

Now that Easter is finally here many of us will be spending the weekends with our families. Others, like me, will be spending Easter in front of the microwave. Why? Because I like to put to peeps in the microwave and make them fight, it’s pure entertainment. Easter is when God’s son, the Easter Bunny, fought Satan in a big microwave.
