Obama Speech in Tuscon

Obama’s looking grayer than ever.

Between the left and the right’s fight over the past few years, it was only time before a grand assassination was attempted. When it finally happens, similar to how the Oklahoma City bombing occurred, the president must stand and unite the country in the wake of tragedy. For Clinton, it allowed an impetus to cross partisan lines, so that you if you had a soul you were on his side, or you were a terrorist. For Bush, it was us against the world, largely due to the scale of the tragedy and the precedence of a foreign attack. For Obama, the Loughner effect will boost his popularity and give him more reason to draw his politics to the center.

President Obama’s speech drew more than 14,000 to the stadium in Tuscon. His speech showed that he is if not able, then at least he is willing and ready, to relate to the average person. The president pulled away attention from gun laws, mental health issues, and other possible contributors to Loughner’s attack, and said that the causes for the deaths are unclear. This line is blanketed everywhere on the internet, and does a good job summarizing the speech: “Only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to our challenges as a nation.”
