The Beatles Are Now on iTunes

Yesterday Apple.com changed their homepage to an enticing message that “huge news” was coming regarding iTunes. Immediately everyone was speculating what could prompt such a commotion. Every tech website and blog began speculating what the announcement could possibly be. Most were  hoping for iTunes Cloud or Apple TV apps. When I arrived at work today, the first thing I did was check Apple’s website and low and behold, The Beatles are finally on iTunes. Biggest. Disappointment. Ever.

I love The Beatles and I’m really happy that the masses can now download their songs and albums if they didn’t own the CDs, or vinyl, already. But did Apple really need to hype it that much? They claimed “Tomorrow is just another day. That you’ll never forget.” No, Apple, I’ve forgotten already. I already own a good majority of their music so thanks for getting me excited over nothing.

Apple is the first to own The Beatles’ entire collection online. Their aim is more towards the older generation who don’t understand the concept of ripping a CD. The Beatles held out for years and refused to sell their digital copies. It was only a matter of time before they gave in. Other artists who vehemently refuse to put their music on iTunes may now be more inclined to change their minds. Both Garth Brooks and AC/DC are against the idea of people purchasing individual songs rather than entire albums.

So while this may be huge news for Apple because their wallets will get fatter, it’s just another ordinary Tuesday for me.
