The Ground Zero mosque nonsense has gotten far beyond reason and you know, I kinda start losing the righteous-freedom-above-all part of me and just want the mosque to get out of my morning newspaper, and my life.
Am I becoming Islamophobic? Well… can’t really say I haven’t been Islamophobic throughout my life. I mean for fuck sake, I grew up Israel. You know what buses look like when you live in Israel? Frickin time bombs waiting to explode.
Sure, we Israelis are a bunch of A-holes as well, and there are many issues needed to be solved if we don’t want the entire Middle East up in flames (and many thanks to the soon to be Nobel Peace Prize winner, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his ever so lovely creation “The Ambassador of Death”) but seriously, let’s take a look at what happens when certain groups of Muslims get offended…
It’s 2005; a Danish newspaper publishes a cartoon with the image of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. Do you remember the consequences? No? That’s why god created Wikipedia:
Protests across the Muslim world, some of which escalated into violence with police firing on the crowds (resulting in an alleged total of more than 100 deaths), including setting fire to the Danish Embassies in Syria, Lebanon and Iran, storming European buildings, and desecrating the Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, French and German flags in Gaza City.
And check this out:
Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen described the controversy as Denmark’s worst international crisis since World War II.
And that’s because of a silly drawing. Of course that the paper issued a “we’re so sorry” editorial and until this very day, the entire staff sleeps with one eye open. Doesn’t matter. Muslims all over the world were offended and some had to give up their coveted freedom of speech right in order to keep things peaceful. Nah… everybody were just scared shitless.
But what can you do? Criticize? Remember Theo van Gogh? Well he was an idiot. For example, he once described a “smell of caramel” by stating that “today they’re only burning diabetic Jews”… Now I love a good Holocaust joke here and there, as long as it’s been told by a Jew. You know, Mel Brooks complex, it’s just a thing we have. Anyway, the guy was a prick and didn’t really like any religion and had a lot to say about Islam too. Now, one morning he was biking to work (I always say biking to work can kill ye) and got decapitated by a Muslim extremist, and two knives were stuck in his body, holding a five page note basically telling Western countries and Jews to relax.
And then there’s the South Park incident. These guys portrayed the Muslim Profit dressed in a bear costume. A goddamn bear costume. The group Revolution Muslim didn’t think it was funny and wrote on their website:
We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid, and they will probably wind up like Theo van Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them.
Sure. Not a threat. It’s a fucking candygram.
Comedy Central backed up. The episode was censored. And all of this happened here, in America, the land of the free, free, free, free, free speech, free religion, free fries with your burger, free whatever. Fuck it. Nobody’s free. We all just try to live together and keep it quiet and not hurt each other and defiantly not get murdered.
The group who threatened South Park creators is from Brooklyn. Not Iran or Iraq. Brooklyn. A couple of stops away from Ground Zero. There are mosques in Brooklyn. They’re not getting shut down because of the death threats of that terrorist group. So don’t come and tell me that America is Islamophobic. Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf fights for his constitutional rights, but does he care about Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s rights of free speech? Hell, how about their right to live? Does he care about the thousands of people who are truly offended because of his mosque?
Now there’s an old Jewish saying that goes: “Don’t judge a man in his times of sorrow”. Dear Imam, doesn’t matter if your opponents are right or wrong – they are hurt. Hurt because of the biggest tragedy that happened to this country and the pain is still there. Even if you are right, and honestly, I believe you have every right to build a mosque there, you should be the better man and take that step back. Hey, if anything, fight fanatics like Newt Gingrich, and educate people about the beauties of Islam, about your peaceful religion, and while at it, fight those crazy Islam extremists. Then build your mosque.
America is all about living together, and living together means compromising. Hey, my partner is offended when I use her toothbrush. Do I blame of hating my teeth and being all mouthphobic on me? No. I just don’t use her brush.
And look how I’ve gotten mad here. I don’t want to. This is the reason why I moved to America. It’s the reason this country was founded. People come here cause they’re fed up with fights. Everybody just want peace and quiet and understanding, and when dealing with so many families who lost their dearest ones, I’m sorry Mr. Rauf, but you should do the understanding here, whether you like it or not.
