Happy Flying Ant Day??
19 Jul
Flying Ant Day struck London, England today, as reports ran amuck on the internet of swarms of flying ants pestering civilians. Some England-ers even reported massive swarms during sunrise that forced them to run for shelter.
Flying Ant Day is a term used for the date when queen ants take their nuptial flight. In Layman’s terms, this means it’s the day lady ants fly off, get knocked-up by a bunch of dude ants, and then begin popping-out baby ants to start their own colonies.
Though the large number of insect-participants does give off the impression that “Flying Ant Day” is a planned event, it’s important for people to realize that all the ants in the world don’t call each other in advance and say “Hey, when are you flying outta here? July 19th? Yeah, that sounds good, see ya then.” It is simply a phenomenon that occurs due to ideal weather conditions.
A similar “Flying Ant Day” occurred about a month ago in SouthWest Florida. This Flying Ant Day was extraordinarily scarier, however, and not just because everything America does is better than everyone else. No, the SW Florida Flying Ant Day featured an aggressive new species of ant called the “Carribean Crazy Ant,” which walks erratically, lives above ground, and travels in packs (like rats, wolves, and the scariest of animals, the water buffalo).

A video is available on eHow.com that promises to inform you “How to Identify Flying Ants.” However, we hear at EM!! use the following logic when determining whether an organism is a flying-ant or not:
Can that ant fly?
Yes.
Then it’s a flying ant.
