Al and Tipper Call It Quits After 40 Years

Well, shit. There go the Gores. Al and Tipper are separating after 40 years of marriage. They’ve grown apart, they say.
Or, ahem, in an email to friends Tuesday morning, as first reported by Politico: “This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration.”
Now comes the time for jokes about climate change, rap lyrics, inconvenient truths…the Twitter lamentations on what this means for hard-working, recycling American couples who want to try to stick it out…
We here at EM!! would like to give the once-happy couple a little privacy (well, even as we seize the opportunity to report their private affairs), or at least take a moment to remember the good times.
Remember, we did elect this man president once — not that it turned out to be that simple to do such a thing, or to work at all, for that matter. And for all her fuss about explicit lyrics in popular music, Tipper did show a softening of heart, not to mention chops, by turning around to play the drums and sing back-up for Diva Zappa.
So for old times’ sake, and because we all remember that kiss, here’s Al on Oprah as per Jon Stewart, circa 2000:

Who would have thought Al & Tipper would split, and Hil & Bill stay together. Funny world, aint it?
