Ground Zero Mosque
26 May
In true American spirit, NY committee officials have okayed a mosque, just a stone’s throw away from ground zero. The debate raged, but eventually, the vote passed 29-1, with 10 members abstaining.
Critics of the plan say that it is disrespectful to the families of the victims who died during the 9/11 attack. Supporters have adopted a very “turn the other cheek” attitude, saying that it promotes a religious tolerance that is opposite from the extremism that inspired the attacks.
The vote is just a recommendation, but it serves as an indicator of the community opinion. The group that wants to build the mosque still has to have it approved by the Landmarks Preservation committee, because the building on the site is more than 150 years old. The 13-story mosque will be called the Cordoba House.
At first, I was alarmed at this: a mosque at ground zero? Why don’t they build it in Abu Dabi? But then I calmed my inner redneck and realized that, indeed, this is a move that will attempt to heal the rift that Muslim Americans have felt over the past decade. This is the 21st century dammit! Let them build what they want! Being American is about living together in peace, and welcoming hard working, honest people into our communities. Good job, New York. You make me proud to live here.

They dont deserve a mosque there.. its way disrespect!
Don’t worry, it will be dwarfed by the tallest building in the United States.
“Islam did not bring down the Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001. What brought the towers down were 19 men who were deeply misguided and brainwashed by an ideology that is not blessed in the teachings of the prophet Mohammed in the sacred Koran.
To believe otherwise is to equate Catholicism with the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 by Irish American Catholic, Timothy McVeigh, or to connect Judaism with the 1977 Son of Sam murders with a Jewish American, David Berkowitz.
Therefore, please do not condemn Islam due to the crazed, morbid actions of zealots who abused the Koran and the free will given to them by God.”
